An air compressor buying guide really only needs two numbers to get right: tank size and CFM (cubic feet per minute) output. Get those matched to what you're actually running and the rest is preference.
Tank size: buffer, not power
The tank doesn't make the compressor more powerful — it stores air so the motor doesn't have to run constantly. A small 6–16L tank suits quick jobs like tyre inflation and nail guns. A 25–50L tank gives you a bigger air buffer for tools that draw continuously, like spray guns or air ratchets, without the compressor cycling on and off constantly.
CFM: what actually powers your tools
Every air tool has a CFM requirement — check the tool's spec sheet, not just the compressor's. A compressor that can't keep up with a tool's CFM demand will lose pressure mid-use, which shows up as a spray gun spluttering or a nail gun losing punch. When in doubt, size the compressor to your highest-demand tool, not the average.
Oil-free vs oiled
Oil-free compressors (like the ones in our range) need less maintenance and are ready to use straight out of the box — ideal for home garages and light trade use. Oiled compressors run quieter and last longer under heavy continuous use, but need regular oil checks and changes.
